IDEAS
designing stamps
design i decided that i wanted to have quotes from all of the 'design pioneers' as a backdrop for the stamps, and try different things to represent each designer on each stamp. my ideas for this so far are: - images of each designer - something designed by each designer / an icon to represent them - the logo of each designer - a drawn portrait of each designer. - just quotes themselves ? - pairs of stamps i trialled writing a quote from each designer on their stamp, but didn't think that it brought the design together enough, so i decided to mix it up and put quotes from all of the designers across everything, and treat the project as one 'work of art.' i played about with a couple of fonts, & decided that i liked this handwritten look. i wasn't feeling the first design, so i went on to create some more of my ideas. so far my favourite designs are the stamps with coloured icons / coloured people.
the colours have meaning... yellow for peter saville as he is well known for his factory records covers. pink for zaha hadid as she was known for supporting women. white / teal for alexander mcqueen as he favoured these colours in his last designs. red for margaret calvert as she invented the current uk road signage system. grey for kelly hoppen due to her preference for neutral colour palettes. purple for james dyson as dyson are well known for their purple tones. green for vivienne westwood as she was a climate activist. orange for jony ive as his first company was named tangerine.
