Poetry booklet Create a 24 page poetry booklet (including cover) and experiment with different editorial layouts to visualise the emotions behind the poetry and to add interest. I chose this brief as I love poetry, and thought it would be interesting to play with the design of a poetry book - so far any poetry books I've read are poetry on a page, with occasional images, and I wanted to change that.
RESEARCH
Brief topic
Poetry / emotions - I found these projects visually interesting due to the imagery used.
Looking at editorial items with impact
These were visually impactful due to their use of analogue and high contrast.
DEVELOPMENT
Assets
I have found that where possible I like incorporating analogue work into my design practice, so with this project I leant into that, and created some analogue assets. I also went and took some photos for the booklet.
Page development
Developing and refining pages of the booklet. I wanted to have some level of consistency, with the colours used and textures, but also keep each page individual in design. I forgot to record a lot of development and progress as I was very focused on getting it right.
Final designs
Each page is designed specifically for the content it holds. I decided upon black and white due to the serious subject matter, and high contrast for impact. This was a very personal project, and I'm happy with the end result. It also ended up being 32 pages instead of 24.
