research
Vaughan Oliver I personally find Vaughan Oliver's work very interesting, because he created a completely new style, almost breaking the rules of anything that would have been considered graphic design before his time. He was the album art designer for for record company 4AD, and his album artwork was so immersive and unique, that it was considered by many as another element to the music. See below - Vaughan Oliver's work.
Peter Grundy Peter Grundy / Grundini is a designer and illustrator who has refined info - graphics as we know them today. when he was training he became interested in visual communication that was informative, instead of selling things. He has created a unique visual language, and brought new life to information design, which is no small feat. His work is very easy to recognise, and personally I find his work very aesthetically pleasing, it is simple but stands out, and is informative without being dull. See below - Peter Grundy's work.
El Lissitzky El Lissitzky was a Russian artist, designer, photographer, typographer and architect. He helped to design multiple exhibitions and displays for the Soviet Union. Lissitzky's work greatly influenced the Bauhaus and constructivist movements, and his techniques were a benchmark of 20th century graphic design. I find his work very interesting, and I love the fact that he was able to make a career by utilising art for social change. His designs are instantly recognisable, and I am a fan of the abstract style that he has made his own. See below - El Lissitzky's work.
song booklet brief
Create an eight page book, your personal response to a song. We were given a list of songs, and I decided to choose Glen Campbell's the moon is a harsh mistress, as I have always had an affinity with the moon.
I wanted to make my book look like a children's book, and I wanted the moon to have an identity, outside of being a 'harsh mistress'. The moon character in my book is only portrayed as being harsh because she is misunderstood, and once she realises that she is coming across as harsh she is upset, and then reflective.
