Create a poster for outward bound adventures, utilising the principles of hierarchy and alignment. - All of the copy must be used - The logo provided must be used - At least three images must be used - More than one final poster can be created - Colour / texture may be used in type, images & background - The tracking, leading, outlines & inlines can be manipulated - Photoshop is allowed to colourise or overlay images, although illustrator / indesign is to be used for anything else.
RESEARCH
Grids
Grid systems are beneficial in design because they assist with organising layout, and can be used for print, and screen. There are many different kinds of grids, although the most commonly used ones are; Column, Modular, & Hierarchal grids. It's okay to push the boundaries of the grid, but as a designer you must learn about grid systems to be able to break them.
Grids in context
While doing research about grids I also read some books that looked like they may contain some poster inspiration, there were grids everywhere!
Hierarchy
Posters
Some posters I found visually appealing or relevant to the brief.
The outward bound are a trust with an intention to inspire young people to realise their potential through outdoor learning and adventuring. They partner with schools, colleges, employers & youth groups to teach young people how to believe in themselves.
Outward Bound Trust Colours
Variations
Colour Palette Ideas
I looked at colour palettes that mimic the colours in nature. I also looked at palettes that included the Outward Bound Trust's colours, and colours that I thought would appeal to young people.
Imagery
I looked at some types of imagery I think will go with my poster ideas.
DEVELOPMENT
Initial ideas
Developed designs
My initial final designs, I feel they really embrace the theme of adventure.
Final designs
After feedback I took the suggestion to reduce the body copy & enlarge the website copy. I also changed one of my posters, as it was hard to read.
